Adult Psychiatry Residency Application Process

 

Eligibility Criteria

Applications are accepted from graduates of MD and DO programs, and from graduates of equivalent medical programs.

To ensure that the process of selecting residents is consistent with guidelines established by the ACGME. This Program has the following eligibility requirements

Applicants must document compliance with one of the following:

  1. Graduate from a Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accredited medical school;
    Graduate from an American Osteopathic Association (AOA) accredited college of osteopathic medicine; or
  2. Foreign medical graduate holding a valid Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certificate; or hold a full, unrestricted license to practice medicine in a U.S. licensing jurisdiction; or successfully complete a Fifth Pathway program provided by an LCME- accredited medical school.
  3. Application Process

Applications are accepted for a four-year program, which includes a categorical psychiatry internship followed by three years of post-internship training.

PGY1

Applications are submitted through ERAS. Application materials should include:

  • ERAS on-line application
  • Personal Statement
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Dean’s Letter
  • Three Letters of Recommendation
  • Medical School Transcript
  • If you are a foreign medical graduate, please submit a copy of your ECFMG certificate
  • USMLE scores

PGY2 (and up)

Application package should include:

  • Cover Letter
  • Personal Statement (explaining the reason for applying for a PGY2 position)
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Letter from your current/former Program Director (including a summary of the completed rotations)
  • Dean’s Letter
  • Three Letters of Recommendation
  • Medical School Transcript
  • If you are a foreign medical graduate, please submit a copy of your ECFMG certificate
  • USMLE scores

Interview Process

Interviews are scheduled on Monday to Friday, between the months of October to January. The Residency Program’s Office will contact all applicants accepted for interviews.

The interviews are conducted in a single day – applicants should plan to spend most of the day until 3pm. Candidates interview with at least two faculty members and the Chief Resident, and then there is a tour of the hospital, followed by attendance of a didactic activity.

    Yes, this is a multicultural program.
  2. Does the Program sponsor J1 or H1 visas?
    Yes.
  3. Is there a graduation cut off date?
    No, there is not.
  4. Does the Program have specific score requirements for USMLE Steps 1, 2, 3?
    No, but the number of attempts to pass are taken into consideration.
  5. What is the Program’s policy regarding USMLE Step 3?
    Having passed Step 3 is highly desirable.
  6. Does the Program accept COMLEX scores?
    Yes
  7. Is US clinical experience a requirement?
    No, but it is considered an asset.
  8. Does the Program offer pre-Match positions?
    Yes, on a case-by-case basis.
